Audi announced this week that they surely will be building the Sportsback Concept as the Audi A7 somewhere next year. That’s obviously great news for people looking for a better looking Mercedes CLS – or an upgraded version of the A5.

Photos look gorgeous – car looks gorgeous. I can’t wait to go on a test drive!

Cheapest A5 variant to lead the pack to conquer sales charts by 2015

Audi is set to release a range of new models with the primary goal of meeting Mercedes-Benz and BMW head on in the market. Some models to be rolled out from the assembly line include an A7 4-door coupe, a premium hatch A1, and a Sportback variant of the A5 Coupe. Audi will rely on these cars to finish first in the race to sell 1.5 vehicles by 2015.

The A5 Sportback is due for release in the European market after it takes the spotlight in the upcoming motor show in Frankfurt this coming September. The tag price for this A5 variant TDI 2.0L model is set at $49855. Spokespersons of the car manufacturer hinted of an even cheaper release by mid of 2010.

The A5 Sportback variant is aimed at offering the elegant lines of the coupe while having the practicality of a wagon. The design revolves around this concept and Audi came up with a 5-door vehicle with a stretched profile featuring a tapering roofline.

The storage in the unit can really handle what a family car should at 980L. That’s what it can take with four adults inside with rear seats folded to accommodate some extra load.

Audi will be offering the Sportback A5 variant in 4 engine choices— 3 diesel and 2 petrol.

Car buyers can opt for a 211hp or 265 engines for the petrol engine variants. These powerplants are equipped with the valvelift system which makes it more efficient and able to produce more power. The diesel engine choices are not to be left behind with a range of 170 hp, 190hp, and 240hp choices.

The A5 Sportback now has an improved electronic stability system capable of front axle differential electronic lock. Drivers are also able to choose how the car will deliver its power with the dynamic driving options built into the cars console.

Still hot on A3’s trail, Audi advances the sportback bodystyle with a unique twist with its Sportback Concept debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

Inspired by the lead started by Mercedez-Benz’s CLS and Volkswagen’s CC, the Audi Sportback Concept has a five-door coupe-like design. It sports the new version of Audi’s signature single-frame grille without the vertical struts. In the Detroit debut, Audi said that they plan to offer more sportback models and the first Audi model to get the sportback body style will be the A5 coupe, which will hit the market sometime in 2009.

Going for a futuristic engine scheme, the Audi Sportback Concept boasts a 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel V6 clean diesel engine that eradicates nitrogen oxides. It has the AdBlue system to make sure that it will meet the engine emissions in 50 states and the stern EU6 standards that will be implemented in 2014. It has a 225hp and 405 lb. ft. of torque, allowing it to go 62mph in 7 seconds or less.

The Audi Sportback Concept is proud to be recipient of the first combustion chamber sensors, making the regulation of the engine’s combustion more accurate. The concept’s highlights include an eight-speed automatic transmission and a four-wheel drive system, while an electromechanical steering system help conserve energy. Effective deceleration is achieved, especially on challenging situations, with the application of ceramic brakes on all four wheels. The impressive measures adapted mean that this concept car is expected to attain fuel consumption figures of 5.9 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (39.87 US mpg).
