Audi is determined to take the lead as the best selling luxury brand in the world by 2015. Accomplishing this goal will entail aggressiveness on the carmaker’s part as it plans to roll out quite a number of new car models.

The car manufacturer is looking at about 42 different car units being marketed by mid of the next decade. Audi is looking at the A7 4-door coupe, A1 minicar, Q3 Crossover, and even a production of its e-tron concept vehicle.

Other vehicles to beef up the line up will be variations of their existing models. One of the highly awaited units is the next generation of Audi A3 sedan. According to insiders, the 2013 model A3 sedan will be distributed exclusively in North America.

The financial crisis and weakening dollar has forced Audi to cutback on its plans to launch cars like the A3 convertible and A1 minicar in the United States. However, North America will still see the hybrid version of the Q5 before the year ends, A7 by 2011, and the A3 sedan by 2012.

The next generation of Audi A3 will be uncovered in Europe before the end of 2010 in the form of a three and five-door version. Eventually, the carmaker will produce a convertible, wagon, sedan, or even an Allroad variant.

The 2013 A3 will most likely be similar to the size of the B4 Audi A5 which had a good run between 1994 and 1997.

The new A3 variants will help the brand to meet head on competitions like the 1-Series of BMW, and the A and B Class of Mercedes Benz. The sedan will also be a practical design for a market who is never willing to pay more than $30,000 for a hatchback.

The 2009 Audi A3 is offered in the United States in two engine variants with a 2.0L to 3.2L displacement. Outside the U.S. Audi gives consumers a wider range of choice with the TDI diesel and gasoline engine options. The A3 gets two new engine variants with 90 hp and 105 hp TDI 1.6L engines.

The powerplant that outputs 105 hp is very efficient with fuel mileage recorder at 57.37 mpg or about 4.1L going for 100km. The carbon dioxide per kilometer emission is also excellent at 109g. The impressive figures were made possible with technologies implemented like the energy recovery setup and the start stop system.

The fuel economy of the A3 was improved by 3% due to the energy recovery technology which basically utilizes the kinetic energy of the car’s brakes while slowing down. The energy gathered is used to rid the alternator of its load. The alternator uses the resources of the engine which inevitably consumes fuel in the normal process.

The 105 hp variant zooms the A3 from 0 to 62 in a matter of 11.4 seconds and can max to a speed of up to 121mph. The 90hp has a torque of 170 lb-ft and dashes the 62mph mark on the tick of 12.9 seconds. The lower powered engine does not have the start stop technology but has decent 52.57mpg fuel efficiency and has a rating of 118 g of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

The 2009 Audi A3 with a 90hp engine sells for €22550 while the 105hp variant has a sticker price of €23550.
