Audi plans to build a new A2 and is currently on the concept car development. The research and development team of Audi has been perfecting the design at Audi’s Ingolstadt headquarters.

According to the designers the new Audi A2 will be released as an A2 but will be a totally different package. The new generation A2 is not set for release any time soon.

Aside from coming up with a new A2, the car manufacturer also wants to have an electric A2. This makes the design process a bit longer to make sure that the engineering for the small hatchback vehicle will work perfectly well.

The new Audi A2 will not take up the DNA of the Volkswagen Up platform which is due for launch by 2010. The A2 will be utilizing a new range platform the blends well in between the A1 super mini and the A3. The A2 is expected to have a different body style which will be bigger than the VW Up or as big as the A1.

The company is looking into the development of a premium brand of electric cars. It is expected to be different from what the VW has and Audi is looking into building something which can meet head on the iQ of the Japanese automaker Toyota.

The revival of the A2 comes in response to a lack of interest of the market for Audi’s city car released last year of the A2. With the mini’s going well in the market right now, the A2 move is a logical step for Audi.
