Audi top executives give a go to the production of 5 new eco cars that will range from a city car to a sports car.
Before Christmas, Audi gave the final seal of approval for their E1 or entry level environment friendly car. This first project is classified to meet head on the Project i of BMW.
Here’s a glimpse of what’s to expect from these clean, low CO2 emitting vehicles:
Audi E1
This will be the smallest electric car in the range and is derived from the DNA of the Volkswagen NSF. The architecture of the exterior and interior of the E1 will be reinvented though to look different from the VW Up. Aside from releasing an electric version, there will also be a series of gasoline and diesel engines for the E1.
Audi E2
The Audi E2 will be the sports car of the family of eco vehicles. This is set to reflect the VW BlueSport concept and target the rivalry with the Mazda MX-5. This will be a combination of clean fun with a stingy choice of engines that may range from a 1.2 FSI or 1.2 TDI.
Audi E3
This eco car will be the rebirth of the A2 of the 1990s. The E3 may highly depend on the aluminum materials as its main body component. It will be based on the efficient design of the MQB matrix.
Audi E4
The E4 is the resurrection of the Roadjet. It may be too much but one can think of the E4 as a bigger E3 that exemplifies the features of a van combining it with a Sportback.
Audi E5
This is the future sports car of the series. Due for development until 2014, the details about this car is very limited. What is clear about the car is that it will be aiming for higher fuel mileage and excellent handling.
Audi aims to mark its 100th year of existence with a clean bang as it welcomes its production of the first range of its eco cars by 2009.
